Comunidad judía en Elvas y Badajoz
About
Kehilath Sefarad - Elvas Badajoz is currently the only authentic Sephardic community on the entire Iberian Peninsula.
The old local Jewish community was re-established on Purim 5874 (התשפ"ד) (March 2024) with the goal of reviving the true Sephardic tradition in Sefarad. This was done in a background of multiple Ashkenazi Jewish communities or those who follow Ashkenazi customs, in Sefarad (including Spain and Portugal) who have attempted to 'import' their traditions to the Sephardic people or reflect their own traditions to the local population, despite not being Sephardic themselves. These efforts often take advantage of the Sephardic Jewish community.
Rabbi Menahem Ben Harroch, the son of Rabbi Meir (a righteous man for blessing), and the author of Halakha books as well as bible and Talmud interpretations continues to preserve the original customs of the Sepharadic people (Al-Andalus). Rabbi Menahem is a Non-Zionist and free Ashkenazi influence rabbi, and so on our community.
The community is unique because it conserves the old traditions that no where already exists. The way of the learning Torah is also unique corresponded to Sefarad Golden age method of Rif, Maimonides, and Geonim, rather than the invented method that was developed later by a strong Ashkenazic influence.
